Contributions by Peter Noever for “fair” 01/2020, Magazine for Art & Architecture
The latest issue of the renowned austrian magazine for art and architecture "fair", provides for the first time an overview of Peter Noever's initiated & realized interventions in public space, as well as several (land) art projects he has designed himself."Center for Understanding Media" for the Bombay Beach Biennale in California, 2019 is one of the most recent projects.
CHRISTO and Vienna
The projects that were not realized
“Vienna wouldn’t be Vienna if Vienna wasn’t Vienna” (Peter Noever).
CHRISTO and Jeanne-Claude wanted to support the realization of Peter Noever’s project CAT contemporary art tower. At the time, paul virilio said enthusiastically, but perhaps assessing Vienna too optimistically, “Avec toi Peter Noever, la resistance commence!”
The transformation of the flak tower into a center of contemporary art and thus into a memorial of “never forgetting” has failed. And with it the fact that in this country, as then, there is no corresponding site for the complex requirements of artistic production. CAT was intended as a space for critical-emancipatory, experimental-avant-garde, utopian-visionary art. Jenny Holzer and James Turrell have developed unmistakable vital artistic interventions for the new appearance of the CAT and to determine the content.
