art museum
without art
a constant
question, especially when the task is to shed critical light
on the history and
future of art and design museums: what
about contemporary art?
today’s art
institutions, museums in particular, are concerned primarily
with themselves,
lack clear orientation, offer interchangeable programming
and compete with one
another in terms of market share and performance metrics.
but what is truly needed, especially today, is:
– a new “site of art”
– a commitment to the present
– a new strategy
– a manifestation of the here and now, in art that
is capable of
creating a context and exerting influence on the social
consciousness
all this we
must do, if art is something which we actually care about
rather than a mere
pretense.
there is no art without the contemporary.
